Engagement & Wedding

I am a sneaky one.  I am the girl who finds out what her presents are before Christmas, and looks at bank statements to see if I can figure out birthday surprises.  It's hard to surprise me!  Since I knew we were going to be married, my eyes were alert like a hawk's to figure out how Jalon was going to pop the question.  I had always wanted a public proposal and he and my roommate Les developed ways to lead me astray.  Les would leave up the Texas Rangers game schedule on the computer and then play it off like it was an accident. Jalon would surprise me with a trip to Washington to visit his family and Les would hype it up like it was going to be a very special Valentine's Day trip.

Spring Break of our freshman year of college came, I was in Arizona and Jalon was in Washington (or so I thought).  Sunday morning: it was missions Sunday and there were a lot of special things going on that day.  In the middle of the service, the lights went out and a video came up - it was Jalon! I kept thinking to myself when did they get Jalon to do a missions video? On the video he talked about how he needed to talk to me, and needed to ask me a question - but he was sorry he couldn't do it long-distance on a video.  Then all the lights went out and I heard Jalon's voice on a microphone. He was there! The lights came on and he walked me up to the platform, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him. This time there was no hesitation - I blissfully said yes.

Jalon and I take the Bible literally when it says sex is for the confines of marriage only. We were both virgins and were saving ourselves 100% for our wedding night. We spent the next three months preparing for our wedding and our marriage.  Such a fun season of life.  June 23, 2001 we were married by Jalon's dad in the same church where Jalon proposed, and the very church where we met as children.
